Here's antique Victorian brooch of genuine scarab beetles!
This Egyptian Revival brooch features a row of three bezel-set scarab beetle exoskeletons. These dazzling insects are dark, iridescent green, highlighting the texture of these insects. The brooch and pin are composed of a non-precious metal, likely brass, and close with an antique C clasp.
In Ancient Egyptian jewelry, scarab beetles symbolized the god of the sun. Following Napoleon's conquest of Egypt, the scarab beetle regained popularity in popular design, and this fine example likely dates to around the 1880's.
