Here is a vintage artist doll with wooden head, a famous “Krahmer Kuck in die Welt Puppe” (Krahmer being the name of the doll artist, “Kuck in die Welt” meaning “Have a lookout into the world”). These dolls are very rare collectors dolls (never are more than 100 dolls made of the same design), and are being made since 1947 in the same fashion with hand carved wooden head (basswood), features hand painted, high quality cloth body, dresses handmade in the doll manufactory, handmade real leather shoes, genuine human hair wigs. Our doll here even comes with her original cardboard box.
Our doll here was made in the 1960s to 1980s, we can’t say for sure, but the original box has more of a 1960's design as you can see in the photographs, the old Krahmer doll was never played with and is in mint condition, she must have been in the hands of a considerate collector all these years! Doll has been manufactured in Chemnitz (Erzgebirge), a city in the former Eastern German state (no longer existing since 1990).
Our vintage artist doll here measures 36 cm / 14 inches tall like all Krahmer dolls.
As to the history of the famous “Kuck in Welt” Krahmer dolls: In 1947, when most of Germany was destroyed by WWII, a young mother, Hildegard Krahmer, was making dolls for her own children, since there were no playthings to have. Her robust but cute and impish looking dolls very quickly made it to toy fairs and received international recognition. Soon she run a manufactory with only a small number of employees (less than 10, which saved them from the shutdown by the Eastern government), and they hand manufactured their dolls for the collector’s market more than for children. Since they were located in the East of Germany, their nickname was and is until today “Käthe Kruse of the East”.

*Please, be aware that NONE of the decorations you may see in the photographs will come with the vintage artist doll – this listing is for the old Krahmer doll in her box ONLY!

*Please notice: This German vintage doll belongs not into the hands of children; it may not fulfill the safety standards for toys in our time! So, it is not meant as a toy, though a collector’s & vintage toy lover’s item for display only!
