Here is a rare old celluloid Schildkrot doll, named Barbel (= German pet name for Barbara), she represents one of the five most famous doll designs of the even more famous Schildkrot Company. This Barbel type doll with molded ram’s horn braids coiled over the ear’s hairstyle was first produced in 1937 and our doll here was produced in this small size 25,5 cm / 10 inches only from 1937 to 1940, she is very rare indeed and comes even with her original clothes!
Our old turtle marked Barbel doll has beautiful hand painted blue eyes.
Vintage Schildkrot Barbel here is marked on her back with the turtle mark; a turtle (= Schildkröte in German) inside a diamond and 25 ½, meaning, she is 25,5 cm / 10 inches tall standing. Doll’s arms and legs are jointed and can hold every pose, the elastics doing their job perfectly, her head is not movable. Old as Schildkrot doll Barbel is, apart from some slight scratches on her body she presents herself in very good but played with condition.
The head was once repaired as you can see in the photographs – an old restoration, done with care. Somebody painted her finger - and toenails; somehow girls in all times seems to be fond of doing this.
