Navajo girl with braids sitting cross legged in beautiful teal color with a lightly glazed finish. Artist Jack Black (1990). Original signature and date (1990) on bottom of piece. She is approximately 8 inches tall and 6 inches wide. Excellent condition. No box.
Jack Black was a member of the Navajo Indian tribe and his life was the inspiration for his art. His work reflected the vibrant colors of the desert and sky. He was a well-respected, talented artist and sculptor. He was born in Galveston, Texas and lived in Arizona. In 1984 he opened a studio in Sedona. He hand sculpted each piece so no two were identical. Each piece was signed and dated on the bottom. He passed away in 2002 and all of his molds were destroyed at that time making his work more collectible.
