This classic pendant locket is English, circa 1880. It is designed with a central cabachon rock crystal set in a bold 18 karat gold mount. The central rock crystal cabochon is accented by subtle, finely detailed twisted gold rope. The crystal is cool, smooth and in excellent condition. The crystal reflects light from every angle and magnifies anything housed within the locket. The perimeter is set with lapis cabochon accents. The use of lapis was very popular during this design period and remains so today.
The reverse has a removable bezel, also set in rock crystal and can be removed to house a photo or momento. I have taken photos of the pendant worn with a velvet ribbon and with a fancy link, antique Victorian chain. The chain is available for purchase separately on this site.
The pendant is bold, measuring 2 1/8 inches long with the "O" ring X almost 1 1/2 inches across the center. The condition is superb. It retains a rich patina and is completely original. Any hint of blue in the pictures , is just the result of natural lighting without a camera flash. See it joined with the Intricate Gold French Chain, item #322 listed on this site.
The design is as relevant to today's fashion as it was 135 years ago. Elegant and timeless
England, circa 1880
