I could search for many years and not find the beauty of the paste stones found in these earrings. They are French, circa 1820 and are set in foil back, hand crimped cushion cut earrings. The stones are set in silver, and the backs are 18 karat gold. New 14 karat gold shepherd hook ear wires were added to convert the elements to earrings. These were found in Paris and were made from an amazing partial nacklace, or reviere .
The stones are bright , white, reflective and the rare cushion cut. They equate to over 2 carats each and measure without the collets approximately 8.38 mm across X 8.38 mm down. They are remarkable, beautiful earrings. Each stone is hand set and the effect is extraordinary.
Paste jewelry has been recognized as an art form in its own right, and French paste sets the standard for unique beauty.
