Gold

since 2013
This dramatic, long, French Art Deco period brooch is set with Old European diamonds and calibre cut onyx. It typifies the beauty of this period of design which was the highlight of the Exposition Arts Decoratifs et Industrial Modernes, held in Paris in 1925. Designs were new, geometric and streamlined. The earlier periods of Victorian and Art Nouveau set in yellow gold with elaborate gold work, these jewels were elegantly set in white gold and platinum.

This example has a large central diamond , approximately 1 .38 carats. (Stone not removed from the setting which could compromise the gold work.) The stone is vibrant, reflective G-H color and SI1-SI2 clarity.
There are two diamonds at either end, also quality stones of .28 carats, G-H color and SI1-S!2 clarity.

It is dramatic not only in its size but use of contrasting colors of onyx and diamonds. It can be worn in either direction, angled or straight on a shirt, sweater or jacket. It fastens with a secure trombone clasp.
It retains a French guarantee stamp, and eagle, and a maker's mark. It is rare to find large, quality, Old European Cut diamonds such as this center stone.
It is completely original and a fine example of this timeless period of design.
