This is an antique 18th century intaglio ring mounted with an oval shaped lapis lazuli. It depicts a putti under a tree, his leg caught in a trap. He looks comfortable and content eating and considering his options. This cleverly symbolizes being "trapped in love."
The oval lapis is well chosen, as it has a tiny speck of gold that looks like the sun shining through the branches of a tree.
It is set in a later, classic, 18 karat gold custom mount.
It is a size 7 US.
The shape, subject, and symbolism are wonderful.
It is in excellent condition.
