This antique glass intaglio is redesigned as a necklace from an English fob, circa 1840. The intaglio was removed and converted to a beautiful pendant that was custom designed in 14 karat gold with a 14 karat gold chain.
The subject of the pendant is a rebus (words and pictures that form a puzzle). In the 19th century French was used in many English pieces of jewelry as France was considered the epitome of fashion. It states "Je Ne Porte Rien" translates to "I am naked. Or I carry Nothing" Symbolically, on this scroll it means your future is yet to be written. This would have been used as a wax seal in lieu of a signature.
The last image demonstrates how the image is not reversed when it would have been imprinted in wax.
This is a unique intaglio. How perfect for a graduate or a special birthday.
It is 16 inches long and the pendant measures 1/2 inch long x 1/2 inch across .
I have included a picture worn alone and one with two other intaglios that have sold to demonstrate layering with other pendant of choice.
So unique and filled with symbolism.
