Where do I begin? This is one of the most unique pieces of jewelry I have had the pleasure of offering for a very long time.
It is 18 karat gold, enamel and set with a faceted, heart shaped rock crystal. The crystal has an inset of a fausse montre( fake watch) on one side and a compass on the reverse. The compass is working. I will not guarantee accuracy as this piece of jewelry is circa 1820!

The faux montre was a Georgian affectation popular in the 18th century. Men and women would enjoy the ruse and would wear a working watch on the left and sport a fake watch on the right. The "faux" watch would have no working movement, just a face and hands. It would often have a hidden vinaigrette, mirro
r or momento, and could also be attached to a chatelaine. The heart shaped "bottle" is also a ruse, as it is not a functioning bottle.

This version, in the shape of a heart , was a sentimental token imbued with lovely symbolism. Perhaps love forever sealed in a bottle. The compass will guide you through the hours of your life and back to me." So romantic.....

The face of the watch has a wonderful thick, original crystal curved cover over the face. It is so gorgeous when worn, as the entire composition and curved crystal are unique.

It measures 2 1/2 inches from the top of the triple chains X 1 inch across. The bottle alone is 1 1/2 inches long x 1 inch across.
Worn with a chain, or a ribbon/cord, this is a remarkable pendant.
The condition is excellent.

If you visit my alternate site on Instagram I have a video of this that can be viewed.
