These earrings are Georgian, circa 1820. They were taken from a partial reviere and converted by my jeweler to post earrings, with the addition of 14 karat white gold posts. This is the only pair left that was converted to posts. The other pair has sold.
The pastes, are hand cut and in the very desirable cushion cut. The stones are foil back and set in hand crimped silver collets. The reverse has the original vermeil (gold over silver.)
These are so beautiful worn day or evening, but are especially beautiful in the evening light. In the early 19th century stones were traditionally closed in the back and foil placed beneath the stone, brought a beautiful, radiant lustre reflecting light.
Candlelight was used in the evenings and the foil reflected its glow.
There is a special beauty to Georgian paste that cannot be duplicated by any modern reproductions.
These equate to one carat each earring. Simply elegant with a very beautiful setting.
They measure 9.18 mmx 9.2 mm and 9.14 x 9.27 mm with the settings. The very slight size variation is due to the fact that these were hand made settings and hand cut stones.
England circa 1820
