This Georgian 15 karat gold pendant is circa 1810. It is an acrostic piece of jewelry and spells the word LOVE. Acrostic jewelry creates words out of the first letter of each gemstone. In this example it is Lapis,Opal, Vermeil garnet and Emerald. It was interesting to learn that a garnet in Acrostic jewelry was referred to as Vermeil in "A Secret History" by Victoria Finly.
The locket opens to a fine weave of hair protected though the ages. It measures 1 inch in length X 1/2 width. With the bail it measures 1 1/4 inches long.
The chain is not included but available for sale if desired.
The condition is excellent in a piece of jewelry that is 200 years old. There are very minor dings on the reverse.
It was a rare acquisition, and I love the fact that it has a modern aesthetic. It can be joined with other charms or worn alone as seen in the photo.
Simply beautiful and so meaningful to gift to a loved one.
England, circa 1810
