This necklace is composed of 17th- 18th century crystal and glass beads. The beads originate from the Dutch trade where they were one of the first Europeans trading in the African Coasts. Known as "trade beads" they fit into a barter system for African traded goods. They became a status symbol of wealth and power in Africa.

This necklace has some beads that are faceted cubes. They are mixed with round and and iridescent beads all 17-18th centuries. The combination is so beautiful and subtle. I have added silver, 19th century Yemenite beads as accents.

The necklace measures 17 inches long and has a classical, modern sterling closure. The beads range from a center of 16 mm to the smallest near the clasp of 10mm.

These beads have the facet wear and unique inclusions expected of these early beads. It is the charm and individuality of every bead that makes it unique.

So perfect for every outfit both a casual tee shirt or dress.
