This intaglio ring dates from the Roman Period, 2-3 Century AD. The setting is extraordinary, created by hand from a solid piece of gold. It is set with an intaglio of Minerva wearing her crested helmet. She is the Goddess of wisdom and war.
The intaglio is carved from carnelian, and has a rich color. It has tiny hints of brown that are natural to the stone.
The gold is very high karat tested as over 22 karat. It has an impressive weight of 9.4 dwt. The setting is 18th century as ancient intaglios were often reset.
It is a 5 3/4 US and is in excellent condition. The color of the gold is beautiful with a patina that only the passage of centuries could create.
This is a unique ring that is a joy to be able to offer for sale.
