So sentimental and timeless in appeal, this mine cut diamond, double witches heart is circa 1880. The hearts are symbolic of being "bewitched" with love and associated with a serious commitment like betrothal or marriage. In earlier centuries, the witches heart (curved on the bottom to the right)) was worn for its magical qualities to ward off evil spirits and to protect loved ones. In the 19th century it became a token of love and commitment. Today, it could have a personalized symbolic meaning; two parents gifting the heart with love and hope for eternal protection. Wonderful.....!
The heart is set with 38 old mine cut diamonds . There are an additional 13 old mine cut diamonds that are each 1 point and decorate the bow. The total weight is over 1 .10 carats. Each diamond was finely hand cut and set in silver topped 15 karat gold. Originally a
pin /pendant combination and I had the pin removed and retained the fold down bail for ease of wear. It has been joined with a modern 14 karat gold rolo link chain, which looks beautiful with the pendant.
This is a classic example of English refinement so perfect for any age and can be a forever gift.
Condition is excellent.
England, circa 1880
