Antique French 18th century Aquamarine Gold PendantAntique French 18th century Aquamarine Gold PendantAntique French 18th century Aquamarine Gold Pendant

This 18th century French aquamarine and 18 karat gold pendant is unique and very beautiful. It is signed as two articulating sections each having faceted aquamarines that are foiled back and set in fine saw tooth settings. The use of foil was to reflect light into the stone as they were characteristically set closed back at this period of time.

The use of aquamarine was quite rare and reserved for finer jewels. This would have been part of a large brooch and has been transformed into a pendant. The color of the gold is rich and it retains its original patina.
It measures 1 1/2 inches long X 1/2 inches across the bottom. The gold work is beautifully rendered.

I have joined the pendant with a beautiful, textured 16 inch, 14 karat chain that is a perfect complement in color and design. The chain measures 16 inches.

It is rare and so very wearable both for casual or dress.
France, circa 1790
