This antique English 15 karat gold heart is as working padlock, circa 1840. It is completely handmade and finely finished. The gold work is repousse which means the gold is hammered into relief from the reverse. It is a work of art. There is a forget me not flower in the motif, and it is surmounted by a coiled snake symbolizing, eternal love. The reverse has a locket with original glass.
The padlock is large, measuring 1 1/2 inches long X 1 inch across. It opens and closes securely and can be used as a padlock. I have added a removable gold ring so it can easily be joined with a chain of choice. The chain shown is not included.
These are rare to find and the con edition is excellent.
England, circa 1840
