I personal adore these French love pendants and search for them on every buying trip to Paris. This particular pendant is one of the finest I have had the pleasure of offering. I was in Paris, near the Sacre Coeur and was walking though a few of the beautiful shops. I was speaking to the owner of one shop and he said he has one of these pendants in his private collection for many years and would bring it to the shop the next day. When I returned, I truly was amazed at the beauty of this particular pendant. The patina is rich and the stones are so finely faceted and set.
Like the others I have offered, it is made by the famous French jeweler Alphonse Augis and is called the "Medal of Love" It is the symbolic translation of a verse by Rosemond Gerard to her husband written in the year 1907 "For you see, each day I love you more, today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow." The plus, representing "more" is set with rose diamonds and the "minus" set with finely faceted rubies.
I have never seen the rubies as finely faceted in any similar pendants.
It retains a gold guarantee stamp for 18 karat gold,of a horse's head, which means it was made before 1919. Signed A. A. for Alphonse Augis and signed Depose(made in) on the reverse. It is therefore one of the earliest and most finely rendered of these love pendants.
It measures 1 inch diameter and is 1 3/8ths long with the bail. It weighs an impressive 6.4 grams
I will include a black cord with a 14 karat clasp. It of course can be joined with a gold chain. It can be engraved on the reverse.
This is truly a treasure. It is a meaningful, symbolic, forever gift for any loved one.
France, circa 1919
