This antique French pin is a small work of art, a treasure ,circa 1880. It is designed with small, finely cut rose diamonds which serve as a border of a central diamond star motif. The star is set upon guilloche. Guilloche is a process, a technique in which precise, intricate and repetitive patterns are created by the use of geometric lathes which engrave a pattern in metal . With the addition of translucent enamel the pattern remains visible creating a magical backdrop. This technique was used the famed house of Faberge.
The pin is small, measuring 7/8ths across X 6/8ths down. It retains all the original mounts on the reverse. There are French opinions, or guarantee stamps for 18k gold on the pin stem and a maker's mark on the C-clasp.
It is so finely rendered by a skilled artisan that took pride in creating a work of art. Even the reverse has engraving.
Condition is excellent and it incompletely original. It is elegant worn on a collar, sweater (as shown) or shirt.
France, circa 1880.
