The intaglio is of Venus Victrix. She is the Roman goddess whose duty encompassed love, beauty, desire,sex and fertility. The intaglio has her partially draped body leaning against a column. She is holding a spear in her left hand and shield is at her feet.
The ancient intaglio is set in a custom 20th century, French mount. It is fully marked with a guarantee stamp for gold, an eagle's head, and a maker's mark. It is etched M.P. for Marc Poncini a French jeweler.,
The gold work is superior with the setting in the ancient shape of a D. The stone is closed back, with rub over setting. The setting echoes the ancient Roman setting fitting for the period of the intaglio. The 18 karat gold is rich in color and beautifully finished.
