This antique Portuguese topaz and diamond 18 karat gold and silver ring is 18th century. It is designed with a central, vibrant golden topaz set in gold and accented on either side with two small diamonds set in silver. The central golden, faceted topaz has rub over collets and the reverse, fine engraving typical of Portuguese work. The topaz is closed in the back, typical of the period and is foiled beneath the stone to reflect light in the stone. The diamonds have rub over collets and are in a traditional setting.
During this period of time, Portugal had dominion over Brazil where many of these rare stones, such as topaz were imported. For similar examples, "Five Centuries of Jewellery , National Museum of Ancient Art Lisbon. Page 75
