This regal ring is from the Iberian Penninsula, incorporating Spain and Portugal, circa 1740. It is set in 18 karat gold, with each amethyst stone, closed to the light, foiled, and set in rub over collets. The elongated lozenge shape is typical of the period, and is joined by an original, beautifully appointed shank. It was created during the Baroque period of design, which spanned the years of 1600-1750.
It is a size 7 1/4 US. The top measures 19.48mm X 14.58mm.
The ring is beautifully proportioned and the gold work finely rendered. Condition is very good with a tiny ding on one side of the perimeter, not visible when worn. It retains an original, rich patina.
