This antique, Victorian 14 karat gold and amethyst bead necklace is circa 1880. It has fine ornamented beads in the classic Etruscan style that alternate with faceted amethyst beads. Fine wire is hand set upon each gold bead, a laborious, difficult technique that had been refined by the Etruscans. This work adds visual as well as tactile interest. The patina is rich and original.
The necklace measures 16 inches long and terminates with a secure push clasp. The beads strung on gold chain, graduate from 5.1 mm to 9.6 mm. The condition is excellent.
This necklace is timeless an so easy to wear for casual or more formal occasions. Perfect for the February birthday... American circa 1880
