This antique 18 karat gold ring is English, circa 1890. It is designed with a central buckle finely accented with tiny rose diamonds. The ring has a hinged strap ta opens to reveal very beautifully plaited hair. The strap has trailing designs in gold with black enamel. The condition is excellent and the entire composition is well proportioned. The shank measures a sizable 1/4 inches all around giving it an almost modern aesthetic.
The interior is marked 18 ct and has two dates, one 1880 and one 1887. These dates indicate the passing of two loved ones, their hair plaited, locked, and protected through the ages.
It is a size 6.5 US and is lovely worn alone or stacked with other rings.
