This antique 18 karat gold star pendant is designed with faceted natural zircons. Zircon, the birthstone for December, is not to be confused with cubic zirconia, a simulated stone. Zircons are a gemstone that have been used for thousands of years in jewelry, as it resembles a diamond in its natural fire and luster. It is prized for its brilliance and was incorporated in many Victorian pieces. In this example the stones are white, pale gold, and a pale green similar to the color of chrysoberyl. In the language of stones a Zircon symbolizes wisdom, honor and wealth.
Each stone is faceted and set in hand crimped collets. The bale, which articulates, is set with two zircons. The entire design is magical and vibrant. The proportion is elegant and the pendant is easy to wear with a cord or chain. I will provide a black cord with a 14 karat clasp, as seen in the pictures. It measures 1 7/8th inches long X 1 1/2 inches across. The gold has a rich yellow patina, and the pendant is in excellent condition.
Perfect for the "star" in your life. England circa 1860
