This Georgian sapphire and diamond ring is circa 1750. It is set with a pale blue sapphire, very rare to find in Georgian jewelry and flanked on either side by a rose diamond. . The sapphire, a lovely, pale blue is set in rub over gold, and foil back setting. The foil beneath the stone creates the beautiful, desirable hue characteristic of early jewelry. The diamonds are bright and complete this beautiful composition.
It is petit in scale, measuring a 5 1/2 US. The head of the ring measures 1 1/2 cm X 6 mm. The sapphire measures approximately, 5mm X 6mm. The setting is 15 karat gold and silver. The diamonds are set in crimped rub over collets. The condition is very good.
This 18th century ring has enjoyed many centuries and carries the secrets of all its owners. Perhaps, that is the greatest allure of antique jewelry.
