This antique Victorian diamond, pearl and ruby butterfly brooch is circa 1880. It beautifully replicates a butterfly having pierced wings and a thorax of natural split pearls. The eyes are set with tiny cabachon cut rubies. There are 44 small sparkling rose cut diamonds approximately 70 pts with F-G VS2 clarity.
The setting is 9 karat silver topped pale rose gold. The reverse has the original mounts with a screw mechanism that is removable. The Victorian, early pieces were versatile and the screw mechanism enabled this to also be set on hair ornaments.
The diamonds are finely set and the body finely designed. It measures 1 3/4 inches across X 1 1/8 inches down.
It is in excellent, all original condition with timeless appeal.
