I love these long antique chains as they are so versatile. This French chain has a beautiful motif as well as a rich, original patina. It is designed with lozenge shaped plaques centered with fine cannetille and connected by a series of rectangular links. The geometry is simple and elegant.
The chain is a long 60 inches by 8mm (across the plaques). This wonderful length allows the chain to be doubled or tripled around the neck. Of course, it could be worn long with a pendant of choice.
The clasp retains a French guarantee stamp, a horse's head, which denotes manufacture in the provinces between 1838 and 1919. This chain is circa 1890. It weighs 37.8 grams of 18 Karat gold.
It is beautiful worn doubled or tripled around the neck. Also easily joined with a pendant of choice, as seen in the last photo.
The condition is excellent. It is the perfect luxurious accessory to be enjoyed day or evening.
