These antique French 18 karat gold earrings are circa 1850. They are designed as day / night earrings as the bottoms detach. French earrings from this period were characteristically light and embellished with engraving and repousse work. These have a lovely, mellow color gold and retain the guarantee poincon, un tete d'aigle, for 18 karat gold. I loved the geometry as they have an almost modern aesthetic.
These were unusual, as the bottoms have work both front and back. They are light on the ears making them so easy to wear. They weigh 4.9 grams combined, and retain the original back to front closures.
There are two tiny pin holes done at the time of manufacture and very minor dings not visible when worn. The condition is very good and the engraving and repousse work is well done.
They measure 2 1/8ths inches from the top of the wires X 5/8ths across the bottom.
France, circa 1850
