This is an extraordinary, long, antique 18 karat gold chain. It is unique in its simplicity, given the period of the turn of the 19th century. It is designed with oval links centered by a stylized "S" motif. The chain is also notable for its long length of 70 inches. It is 1/4 inches wide.
The patina is beautiful, and each link smooth and finely rendered. It terminates with a dog clip which enables this to be doubled or tripled around the neck. The simple, elegant design of the links easily complements a locket or any pendant of choice. It is marked 18 ( for 18 karat gold) on the end ring, and retains a maker's mark on the dog clip.
It has an impressive gold weight of 61.6 grams and is in excellent, all original condition.
It is ideal worn for casual or dress attire.
England, circa 1900
