This French, 19th century brooch is rendered in 18 karat gold and silver. In French, it is described as " en tremblant" for the movement of the bird created by a cleverly designed hidden spring mechanism on the back. This brooch is all original, with French touchmarks on the wing, pinstem, and c-clasp.
The brooch is 18 karat gold topped with silver, typical of the period. There are fine silver set, rose cut diamonds, on the body. The collar and eye have cabochon rubies set in gold.
It measures 1 3/4 inches across x 1 inch down. These type of pins are often found in floral form and rarer to find as a figural during this period. It is completely original, in excellent condition and retains French touch marks on the wing, pin stem and c-clasp. It is effective worn on the shoulder as it highlights the movement.
France, Circa 1880.
