This French, 18 karat gold ring is circa 1840. It is bold and finely rendered with a beautiful play of color and a dramatic size. It has a central flower motif created by a cabochon emerald set in a hand crimped gold collet surrounded by small rose cut diamonds . The onyx stone creates a dramatic contrast and gives depth to the creation. The perimeter of the ring is hand engraved and has fine milligrain.
The shank continues the flower motif with a pierced vine of leaves. The reverse of the ring is as fine as the front, and it too has lovely hand pierced gold work. The ring is a size 7 3/4 US and can be sized. It has a French guarantee stamp, or poincon, for 18 karat gold on the shank. It is in excellent condition. This is an elegant, sophisticated ring, suitable for day or evening wear.
France, circa 1840.
