Rare Stuart Crystal Diamond Ring 17th Century - image 1 of 6

This rare Stuart Crystal diamond ring is circa 1650. Following the execution of King Charles I, the Stuart followers made of of jewelry with faceted crystals below which contained hair, cyphers or sentimental portrait miniatures. This tradition followed into the 18th century.

In this example, a central faceted crystal with a cypher is surrounded by rose cut diamonds. All are set in rub over, silver collets. The 18 karat gold band with chasing on the sides, and plain back, is typical of this period. The reverse has decorative tiny groves, or pockets that still retain the original enamel. The sides of the shank also have original enamel. The ring is a size 5 3/4 US.

Stuart crystal jewelry is rare and coveted by collectors. Finding one with diamonds and in excellent condition is a collector's dream.
