A fine set of nested apothecary's bronze measurement weights probably from the late 19th century.

The nested cup designs aided the transport of weights, which were essential tool in the many commercial transactions.

Their design or idea dates back to Roman times, to increase the portability of sets of weight by minimizing the size of an entire group of weights into one container. This set has four interlocking bowls or pillars and the master pillar or cup and has a total weight of 505grams.

The nested set measures 7.5m tall and is 5cm in diameter.

The largest cup or pillar houses all of the other bowls which are in decreasing sizes. The other bowl locks with a bar and clasped side lock.

These beautiful examples are European and are probably a Nuremberg set.
