Antique Child’s Cutter Sled Original Paint - image 1 of 9

A beautiful old cutter style child’s sled / sleigh still wearing the original paint and the name of the little girl who once owned it. “Lenore” is painted in gold letters on the dark red painted wood seat. The iron runners are beautifully and intricately cast with stars and curlicue fronts. We have never seen runners this fancy before on a sled.

The iron runners are rusted but still sturdy and unbroken. One of the back v-shape supports has a bend near the top. The front support that attaches between the runners has some slight bends, probably the result of a wild ride downhill. There is a piece of wood missing near the back edge on the seat. A small piece of the wood trim on the top of one runner is also missing. There is a repaired crack in the seat and wear to the paint, especially toward the back where the child would have sat.

The sled is 36 inches long, 12 inches wide and 11 ½ inches high to the tops of the runners.

This would be a wonderful decoration at Christmas and throughout the winter. The lovely name Lenore always reminds me of the famous poem by Edgar Allan Poe.
