A vintage hand made folk art birdhouse with weathered old paint. We bought this birdhouse at auction many years ago, but never used it outdoors. In our home, it was displayed with a collection of vintage gardening tools. It appears to have been made simply for decoration as there is no way to clean old nesting material from the inside. It is hard to say when this piece was made, but it does have some age.
This primitive bird house has galvanized tin steps leading up to the entrance, probably made from scraps from an old barn roof. Above the doorway it says “Scott Twp” and there’s a bell tower with removable tin flag on the very top. There is a little metal bell inside the tower, but it does not ring. The paint was once red with blue trim, but has faded over time. The wood is most likely pine and it has age splits, but the house is still sturdy. On the back, there appears to be some letters scratched into the wood.
It is 22 inches tall including the flag on top. The width is 8 inches and the depth is 12 1/2 inches.
The birdhouse weighs almost 9 pounds before packing.
