Cast Iron Geneva Hand Fluter Fluting Iron
Made from cast iron, this antique fluting iron was made in Geneva, Illinois and patented on August 21, 1866. Fluting irons were used for small pleats on collars and sleeves or for dresses with ruffled accents. The bottom plate was heated on the stove and then the starched fabric was pressed between the handle and the plate. This fluting iron is in very good condition with no broken parts. The handle is firmly attached. It is heavy weighing almost 5 pounds. The bottom is 6 inches long and 4 inches wide, with the handle on top it is 4 ½ inches tall.
