A lovely old primitive round wooden cheese box with stenciled lid. The lid has the name of the cheese maker which is Bartley, and below that a cow with Jersey printed on the side. Below the cow is “Full Cream Cheese For” and then written by hand “B B Van Buren”. The box measures approximately 16 inches in diameter and 7 1/4 inches tall. The previous owner used this box for many years to hold her crochet thread and tatting supplies. It is clean on the inside and has no offensive smell. I would estimate it to have been made in the late 1800’s. It is made of oak and has a banded bottom. It is nailed together at the side seam and along the top and bottom bands. It’s still in very nice condition for its age, with some dings and scratches and a chip on the bottom near a nail. There is a slight dip along the inside edge of the box. There are a few missing nails but the box is still sturdy.
