English, c. 1840-1860
Here's a sweet little wax-over composition doll. She has black glass eyes and blond mohair inserted into a slit in the top of her head. I'm not sure she was always a peddlar, but this is how she came to me. Her wares are a mix of antique, vintage and newer items - a few added by me. She is wearing a beautiful gold textured silk dress that has a full bustle back with silk fringe (maybe just a bit fancy). Over that is a sheer cotton apron and a black wool cape. She also has lace trimmed pantaloons and a cotton petticoat. Not sure what else is under her dress since I've never removed it. She has black stockings and her original oil cloth black shoes. I believe the clothing may be original to her. I added that black crochet bonnet. Her peddlar basket is old and hands from her shoulders with a cord. Her wax is in fairly nice condition with very minor typical cracks. She still has a blush to her cheeks even if her lips have paled some. She has dark blue leather arms with very simply defined fingers. Her ash blond hair is still in ringlets in the front but in the back it's all but gone. The gold silk dress is somewhat fragile in places, but still lovely. You can see her in an interesting photo if you check the links from my home page and go to the flickr page under wax dolls. She's a lovely doll and I'm a bit sad to part with her, but I've added a few items and space is limited.
