This little doll is made of wood and her dress is made from antique fabric. She has painted features and a mohair wig. The limbs move at the shoulders and hips, but the clothing - which consists of a dress and a patterned silk petticoat is not removable. I set out to make one of these for myself as a doll that a larger doll could hold, but I enjoyed the process so I made more. I thought I would make 10 - a small collection for myself...but continue to make more. The doll (without the stand) measures 3 inches. She is wearing a dress that is made from genuine 18th century fabrics with metallic thread designs. The top and skirt are actually different fabrics, but the colors go well together. The skirt was made from a fragment of 18th century stomacher. The top and sleeves were from tiny fragments...all of the pieces still had museum tags attached. She has a necklace made from faceted steel beads. The same beads decorate her hair and serve as tiny earrings. She has little gold painted slippers and I like to imagine that all of her metallic accents would be magnificent under candlelight, like the ladies of the 18th century. As with all of the little ladies, she has a patterned gold silk petticoat. Her mohair wig is a pale fawn color. She comes with a little wooden stand that can be removed and a decorative oval box covered with coordinating 18th century styled paper. I love these metallic silk fabrics but they are difficult to work with in this small size. Some of the fabrics are more fragile than others and there may be slight losses fibers, etc. Also, some of the mohair is dyed and some is natural so there are variations within the color of the wig due to either the dye process or naturally occurring coloration. The last photo shows a few of her friends, but this listing is for the one doll. Signed, dated and numbered by the maker – this is Lady #39. These would be for adult collectors and are not meant for children or as play dolls.
