Germany, c. 1870's This doll is really beautiful, however she's not perfect. She has a very ornate shoulder plate with a painted boarder accent, a pink luster painted ruffle and gold beaded trim that goes all the way around the plate. Her complexion is pale, with coral tinted cheeks and a coral painted mouth that gives her a pleasant, serene expression. There are a few tiny kiln specks, not unusual. She has a fancy hairstyle in a pale cafe au-lait coloring and a pink striped luster ribbon. She is on an antique cloth body that is in sturdy condition except for the arms. The right arm is an older cloth replacement and the left (original) leather arm is in fragile condition. I don't detect any hairlines, but she does have a chip to the left (pierced) earlobe and there are tiny chips to the ends of luster painted ribbon in her hair. The other thing to mention is a factory defect. Her left eye is painted a lighter blue that her right eye - strange, but true. For her clothing, she is wearing two original dresses and layered undergarments. One dress is a reddish, fine stripe fuller cotton day dress (which is under the outer dress). This has a lace border added to the bottom. It is a combination of machine and hand sewing and has a tear at one of the buttonholes in the back. The more fitted outer dress is a heavy rust colored fabric that does show wear and some stains/fading. The style is nice in that it shows off her decorated plate. There is ruching on the hem, neck and cuffs and it is fully lined in a nice ornate cotton print of browns and reds. Undergarments consist of a chemise, and matching pantalettes and petticoat that have pin tucks and whitework broderie anglaise lace trim. They have some age staining, particularly on the chemise and pantalettes with have a very dark and stubborn stain on them. I did soak the undergarments and the red dress and they are much improved, but was afraid to attempt the outer dress since I cannot determine the fabric - perhaps a wool and linen blend. The shoes and stockings were not original to the doll and are not included. I think she's a big, beautiful lady in spite of her issues. I have more pictures that didn't fit in the listing, so let me know if you'd like to see more views. Please note, that USPS shipping prices have gone up a good bit and this will be a large, heavy box. She could be sent regular parcel for a good deal less, but it takes longer to arrive and in that manner gets bounced around more. My shipping amounts are estimates until the doll is packaged and destination zip code is added. I promptly refund and shipping over charges. US shipping only.
