Germany, c. 1870-1890
I have quite a few wax dolls but this little one is very unusual. She is more of a toddler, with a chubby gauze cloth body and composition arms and legs. It feels as though there is a thin coating of wax on the arms, but none on the legs. I believe her to be a reinforced wax head rather than a wax-over composition head because she has more detail and modeling in her face. Her shoulder head is thick wax with beautiful pale blue glass eyes and pale blond mohair wig attached to a pate. She is wearing her factory chemise and lovely net, ribbon and lace bonnet (this silk ties were never cut). She came with oil cloth shoes and cotton socks which I'm guessing were original. The shoes are in poor condition and I like seeing her great chubby legs anyway. She has some wear to the wax on her face which is customary with most wax coated dolls. There is a v-shaped crack on the left side of her forehead and a fine line that runs down her face and to the other side at the bottom, and another crack along the right side under the hair. She makes a nice little sister or child for a larger poured wax doll as shown in the last photo (larger doll is of course not included). Cute little angel of a doll - hard to find another like her.
