Hand painted china is so beautiful either done by factory decorators or skilled individuals in a studio atmosphere. During the late 1800's and early 1900's his became a favorite hobby of many American ladies who would purchase china blanks from various companies and create their own works of art. This lovely rectangular-shaped tray, circa 1890 - 1920 was painted in an individual studio. It measures 12 1/2" long and 9 1/4" wide and has a turned-up edge giving it a 3/4" depth. Probably designed for use on a dresser, it could easily function to hold glasses, serve desserts, etc. The background is a pale yellow with a large branch of soft pink roses with leaves of muted shades of green. The rim has a narrow gold border which has worn over time. The base is stamped Favorite Bavaria. Unfortunately the decorator did not sign this lovely piece. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; only the gold wear on the rim.
