A wonderful early stoneware tankard pitcher with dark blue Holland or Dutch scene on both sides, circa 1875 - 1900. So many potteries were producing stoneware for the American household that it is very difficult to identify the maker; this piece is unmarked. It stands 8 3/4" tall, 8" from spout to handle and 5 3/4" across the base. The top and bottom portion is a shaded blue with a wonderful Dutch scene in dark blue of a girl, boy and background scenery including a windmill, other buildings, clouds, etc. This decoration is flat and not embossed in high relief. There are no cracks or repairs; a chip on the inside rim, glaze rub on spout and numerous flakes along the base, including factory flaws that are glazed over.
