Joseph Clementson was born in 1794 and started working at potteries at the age of seventeen. He established the Phoenix Works in 1832, expanded in 1845 and purchased the Bell Works in 1856 before retiring from business in 1867.
This grouping consists of a 6 1/4" plate; no cracks, chips or repairs, some light staining. Stamped with the Phoenix Bird mark, "Siam" pattern, impressed "Clementson - Shelton" and registry mark for 1850. Two sauces, measuring 5" across; no cracks, chips, repairs, several minor stains. Impressed "Clementson - Shelton" and faint registry mark which I believe is 1854. The mismatched handle-less cup, measures 3 3/4" across, 2 3/4" tall: no cracks, chips, repairs, moderate staining and unmarked except for small round cipher on base. A wonderful group of very early blue transfer-ware.
