As early as 1792, the Ridgway brothers produced quality earthenwares in Shelton, Staffordshire, England. This mug or stein was produced during the early 1900's, from illustrations by Hugh Thomson & Herbert Railton, contained in the book "Coaching Days and Coaching Ways" by W. Outram Tristram, first published in 1888. The mug has two scenes "Walking Up The Hill" and "A Winter Days Amusement". The transfer scenes are black, against a caramel/brown background. The base has a row of embossed rosettes and the handle and rim of the mug is silver resist. It stands 5" tall and 4 1/4" across the base. There are no cracks, chips, nicks or repairs; overall light crazing. The base is marked "Scenes from Coaching Days & Coaching Ways by Special Permission of Macmillan & Co. Ltd. Ridgway England".
