The Pfeiffer & Lowenstein Factory of Schlackenwerth, Bohemia, Austria, and the factory is “Imperial PSL Empire”. Founded in 1873 by Ludwig Lowenstein, Wilhelm Pfeiffer and George von Hoffmann, the factory closed in 1949.
This rather unusual hand painted cabinet plate, circa mid-1900's, portrays five mice, (I did say mice), who have just discovered a huge piece of cheese to enjoy for dinner. Four of the shaded gray, furry fellows, with dark beady eyes are in a line, slowly approaching the delicacy, while the fifth mouse is facing the opposite direction. Perhaps he has already had his dinner as the hunk of cheese appears to have somewhat previously enjoyed. The plate has a creamy (not light gray as the photos show) background with beaded gold border. The plate measures 7 7/8" across and is stamped "Imperial - (crown) - PSL - Empirex". There are no cracks, chips or repairs. Your chance to own a unique, conversation starter, piece of Americana.
