Schafer & Vater Company, located at Rudolstadt, Thuringia, was founded in 1890 and continued in business until the early 1960's. The company was known for their bisque porcelain figural and utilitarian items, as well as, a type of pottery called German Jasper-ware, not to be confused with English Jasper-ware.
This outstanding German Jasper-ware vase, circa 1920, is decorated with a Neo-Classical motif. On the front of the oval vase is a full length image of a stately Grecian lady standing beside a Greek style vase which holds a flowering rose bush. Around the top is a Roman scroll border and at the base of the vase is a wide border of acanthus leaves. The background shade is a wonderful moss green shade. The vase measures 8 5/8" in height and 3" in width. There is a partial imprint of the star and crown company mark, pattern number and "Made in Germany" on the base. There are no cracks, chips or repairs; near mint.
