Schafer & Vater Company, located at Rudolstadt, Thuringia, was founded in 1890 and continued in business until the early 1960's. The company was known for their bisque porcelain figural and utilitarian items, as well as, a type of pottery called German Jasper-ware, not to be confused with English Jasper-ware.
This lovely bisque porcelain "Cameo" hatpin holder, circa 1920, has the image of a Victorian Ladies Bust on either side, against an emerald green background surrounded by gold decoration. There are two rams heads which hold a light green and red doted garland that surrounds the top. The hexagon base is decorated with an embossed pink floral band and several gold rings. The dome top has seven holes for hatpins, embossed pink drape design and several gold rings. The hatpin measures 5" in height and 2 7/8" across the base. There is a faint imprint of the star and crown company mark on the base. There are no cracks, chips or repairs.
