The Royal Copenhagen Manufactory was established in Denmark in about 1775 by Frantz Henrich Muller. When bankruptcy threatened in 1779, the Crown took charge. Fine dinnerware and objects of art have been produced since that time.
This wonderful regal figurine portrays a "Siamese Cat" in a sitting position. The erect ears, piercing eyes, dark gray face shading into the tan/gray body with gray tail and paws is awesome. The figurine was designed by Theodor Madsen (1880-1965) who worked for the Royal Copenhagen Company from 1896-1936; during this time he designed 61 animal figurines. The figure measures 7 5/8" in height. Stamped on the base in green with is the company logo, three wavy blue lines, pattern "3281" and the decorators initials "TN". In the word Copenhagen there is a bar below the first N indicating a manufacturing date of 1966. There are no cracks or repairs; there is however a small nick on the tip of the cat's right ear (see photo). A wonderful Danish figure.
